This blog is of course dedicated to all things Toronto FC and I try to limit what I write and comment about to that and that alone. But once in a while something outside the official realm of the TFC universe comes up that definitely is worthy of comment.

UmbroOn October 11th the Canadian Men’s National Team will be playing its  second opening round qualifying home match at the “National Soccer Stadium” versus Puerto Rico. It will be one of the last chances to see the National team play in Toronto for quite a while and as the third round games might be potentially played elsewhere in Canada it might indeed be a good while before the opportunity comes again.

With that in mind the Voyageurs, the Canadian National Team supporters Group, are encouraging the supporters coming out to the game to take part in the “Taste The Soup” canned food drive. Inspired by coach Stephen Harts recent encouragement to soccer fans in Canada to come and see for themselves what the Canadian National Team is doing he asked fans new to these games to come and “…taste the soup…” for themselves.

So at Maro (135 Liberty Street) pre game on October 11th the Voyageurs are encouraging all supporters going to the match to bring canned soup for a food drive to help needy families. And for each can of soup you bring your name will be entered into a draw to win some beautiful Umbro Canadian National Team gear provided courtesy of Umbro Canada.

And of course there will be some TFC content on display that evening in the form of Terry Dunfield, Julian de Guzman and debutante Ashtone Morgan.

See you all at the game and please don’t forget to bring the soup!
