Reporters and fans alike are running out of superlatives to describe Sebastian Giovinco. Yet another mesmerizing performance from the league’s best player saw to that !!

His second hat-trick of the season took his tally to 17 goals this season so far (16 MLS, 1 Voyageurs), breaking DeRo’s record of 15 goals in a season .. and we still have 13 regular season games to play, let alone the playoffs that TFC hope to make for the first time in franchise history … so it is not inconceivable he will reach 25 goals or more, and perhaps even break – in a single season – the 28 career MLS goals that DeRo has as the club’s overall top scorer (and with it the MLS single season scoring record of 27!) One thing is for sure … he is not yet done setting records this season !!!

A quick look at the league issued stats speak for themselves.

  • MLS Goals: Position #1 with 16 – 1 ahead of Kei Kamara
  • MLS Assists: Position #4 with 10 – 1 behind Cristian Maidana and Benny Feilhaber and 2 behind Ethan Finlay
  • MLS Game Winning Goals: Position #1 with 5 – 1 ahead of Kei Kamara and Chris Rolfe
  • Shots Taken: Position #1 with 122 – 22 ahead of Kei Kamara
  • Shots on Target: Position #1 with 52 – 9 ahead of David Villa
  • Hat-Tricks: Position #1 with 2 – tied with Robbie Keane. Cyle Larin is only other player to score a hat-trick this season.
  • Multi Goal Games: Position #1 with 4 – tied with Kei Kamara and David Villa

What we are witnessing this season with Seba is something very special indeed.

One of the knock-on effects of Seba’s superbness is that other players seem to be getting a chance to shine too. Players we knew (or suspected) were good even when TFC were bad are now feeling confident enough to strut their stuff. Jonathan Osorio turned his defenders inside out at will last night. Jackson played a blinder, Warner has been solid and scoring goals, and Marky Delgado continues to impress more and more with each game. We know Seba is great, but seeing other players stepping up to the plate also is even better … it gives hope that when Seba is not playing (and there will come a time through injury, suspension or indeed international call-up that this will be the case) that TFC may just be able to cope briefly !

If there was a downside to last night’s game it would possibly be the performances of Perquis and Findley. Perquis has had a couple of off days now and it may be time for a break and Findley has yet to impress in a TFC shirt, appearing to fill the ‘warm body’ role rather than adding anything offensively. But lets not dwell on this …. the gallery from last nights game as well as a couple of videos I took from section 113 are below, as are the club videos and interviews.
