It could always be worse I suppose. I could be a DC United supporter. Coming into play this afternoon against Toronto FC at BMO Field, the once proud United franchise is bottom of the league and has only won once in the last eleven league matches they have played. DC have not scored a league goal in their last 352 minutes of MLS footy.  A loss for DC today along with wins by Salt Lake City and Seattle means that United’s faint glimmer of hope  for the playoffs would be officially over. They lead the league in goals conceded and train all of MLS in goals scored.

TFC’s struggles to get a ball into the back of the net (one goal in their last five games) has been well documented and having a poor defensive club like DC coming to town may just be the antidote needed. So will be a healthy Maicon Santos and a healthy Mista who was left out of the squad on Wednesday past in Chicago with an undisclosed “injury”. Yet Chicago were probably as shambolic at the back this week as DC may indeed be later today, and Toronto was unable to muster anything offensively.

Toronto to their credit did play with a real sense of urgency this past match and were unlucky to not get the full three points. A lack of quality up top (once again thank you Mr. Mo Johnston) along with the usual suspect MLS officiating certainly contributed to the end result in Illinois. Speaking of officiating, today’s in charge referee Michael Kennedy has been pretty good for Toronto since 2007. The Reds have two wins, two losses and three draws with him in charge and have never lost at BMO Field with him running the show.

So we have two of the most offensively challenged clubs in all of MLS playing this afternoon against one another…

That means it will be a 4-3 barn burner for Toronto FC. Logic went out the window when trying to figure TFC’s season  out a long time ago. Today will be an offensive display by both teams and Toronto will get the three precious points.
